God is working in the lives of the young people in this community! One of our City Life teens, Jazmine, would like to share her story:
“I started going to City Life as a freshman and now that I’m a senior, I’m wondering where the time went. City Life has done so much for me, and I now realize I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the people I encountered there. When my grades were slipping, they had a tutor to help me pass my class. A leader has always been there when I need someone to talk to, and it has been a safe place for me to express my emotions.
The daily activities we have bring us so close that I consider the people of City Life, students included, a second family. The conversations we have during Club has drastically impacted my point of view on life. The fact that we do everything together lets me know I don’t have to do everything alone.
The trips we take as a family have made me feel included. The Leading Ladies and sewing groups have helped me make a lot of new female friends. My sewing group has taught me patience and how to be a better person. I’m so thankful for my small groups and Club because on the days when I’ve felt less than, the City Life students and leaders consistently remind me that I have value. Being part of these groups has also increased my knowledge of the Bible.
Today, I am an Indigenous Leader, which is a student who has devoted their life to God and wants to lead in their community. You learn to speak up to your peers if they are doing something wrong or start a conversation with someone you don’t even know to let them know they’re not alone. We also learn to not pass judgment on things you don’t understand. All in all, my City Life experience has truly changed my life.”
