Pray from Fear and Anxiety to Hope and Renewal

Global pandemic. Social distancing. Quarantine.

These are words we knew before this year, but not ones we thought would drastically affect our everyday life. COVID-19 has rocked our world in a way no one could have predicted, and the results have been scary.

Think about this crisis through the lens of today’s teenagers. Teens who already are struggling with increased levels of anxiety from the world they are living in. An incredibly high 93 percent of students report anxiety, and that’s before COVID-19 struck. Now here they are being forced into isolation and kept from being physically present in school, with friends, in church, at sports, and the list goes on.

Anxiety and fear can be overwhelming in the face of this crisis with no end in sight.

Our teens need connection, and they desperately need hope.

Pray for their fears to be heard, not downplayed, or pushed to the side. Pray for the anxiety of the family members as they try to be strong for their loved ones. Pray for the peace of Jesus to pour out on every young person during this time.

The hope of Christ is truly what can bring peace to an anxious heart. When fear and anxiety seem to be winning the battle, we know ultimately who wins the war.

Below are some verses to praise God for in our prayers for these teens. Let’s pray they experience God, who is our rock, our strength, and our comforter.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Phillipians 4:6-7 (NIV)

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” – Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
